This is a Magellan image of Crater Golubkina. The 30.1 kilometer (19 mile) diameter crater is characterized by terraced inner walls and a central peak, typical of large impact craters on the Earth, the Moon and Mars. The terraced inner walls take shape late in the formation of an impact crater, due to the collapse of the initial cavity created by the meteorite impact. The central peak forms due to the rebound of the inner crater floor. This crater is named after the Russian sculptor Anna Golubkina.
