This animation is based upon the Proteus shape model and map of Phil Stooke. Neptune is made by projecting a Voyager 2 photo on to an ellipsoid of the appropriate dimensions. The view angle is mildly telephoto - 40 degrees, and the Sun is to the west of Proteus to fit in with Phil's shading and to show the Southern Hemisphere Depression to advantage, while darkening the relatively blank areas of the map. |
